Project Overview

What do you do when an auto wrecking yard comes to you with an ask to revamp their website? You roll up your sleeves, grab your design wrench, and start re-building part by part. Autowrecking.com is the largest supplier of quality used auto parts in the US with over 4,000,000 parts available on any given day. With that said our key goals were to both speed up and to refine the part search methodology so that both the professional and weekend-wrencher customers can quickly find the parts they need. Experienced users can fill out the traditional year/make/model/part form to find their parts, but for users that are unaccustomed to searching for auto parts, we provided a smart search field that can distill a user’s string of text into a relevant search request. We also heavily re-organized the site content and streamlined the UX to allow customers to quickly select, review, compare and purchase the exact part match for their vehicles. We expanded the purchasing options to include an eBay style Make Offer Feature that mimics the traditional bartering that often happens in person at the stores. Additionally, we streamlined the cart/checkout methodology for a smoother, more informative purchasing experience. In the coming months, a My Garage feature will be added for registered users to allow them to save their vehicles for future part searches. The My Garage feature will also house an area to save parts for future purchases. The site is built with all the latest HTML5/CSS3/Javascript and is driven from a robust database that integrates with B&R Autowrecking’s in-store inventory system. Incubate directed and created the User Experience, User Interface, Design and Production Assets and Overall Project Management. On top of the new site design, we polished off the project with a sleek new logo and icon that draws reference from both vehicle grills and classic hood ornaments.
